Write-Off

A write-off is the accounting removal of an uncollectible balance from a company's active receivables, recognizing it as a loss. Writing off a debt is an internal bookkeeping action; it does not forgive the debt or bar the creditor from continuing to collect it.

What Write-Off means for creditors

Written-off dollars are recoverable dollars. Because a write-off doesn't cancel the obligation, placing written-off accounts with MSB converts prior losses back into collected revenue.

Midwest Service Bureau has recovered commercial, medical, utility, and government debt for creditors nationwide since 1970 — on a no-recovery, no-fee basis. Questions about write-off or a portfolio you'd like reviewed? Call (800) 362-0272.
